Infrared imaging has become widely accepted as one of the most cost effective non-destructive testing techniques however, infrared thermography is a complex science and there is a significant difference between looking for hot spots with an infrared camera and conducting a full condition monitoring and predictive maintenance programme. In fact, infrared cameras have a great deal in common with visual cameras. They are both easy to use and even easier to misuse. 'Not every hot spot indicates a problem and not every problem is indicated by a hot spot'.
